Homestead Exemption
To qualify for the Homestead Exemption you must:
- Be at least 65 years old during the year for which you are applying OR
- Be permanently and totally disabled and provide proof of disability
- Be named on the deed or title to your primary residence.
- Have a household income at or below the threshold of $38,600 set by the State of Ohio.
100% disabled veterans and surviving spouses of public service officers killed in the line of duty will received an increased reduction and are not subject to income requirements.

Homeowners who received a Homestead Exemption credit for tax year 2013 on the state of Ohio will never be subject to the income requirement even if they move to another Ohio residence.
The Homestead Exemption Application (DTE Form 105A) may be completed and mailed to the Erie County Auditor’s Office, 247 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870; or it may be completed in the office with the assistance of the Auditor’s staff during normal business hours. The Auditor’s Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m.
